About Curtis Kempel, DC

Dr. Curtis Kempel is a licensed chiropractic physician and nationally certified in physiotherapy.  Dr. Kempel was born and raised in northwest Illinois and received his Bachelor of Science degree from NIU in 2007.  He moved to Wisconsin to study at the Theda Care School of Radiologic Technology where he earned a 4.0 GPA and received awards for “Academic Excellence” and “Outstanding Patient Care and Clinical Skills” and then worked in Theda Care’s hospitals as an MRI technologist.  He later graduated Cum Laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic.

Dr. Kempel didn’t discover chiropractic care until he had a serious low back injury while working at the hospital.  He has been an avid weight lifter and runner since high school, and after his injury it was discovered this active lifestyle without education on proper form and preventative measures led to his disc injury.  While helping a patient off the MRI table, he heard a pop in his back and fell to his knee in acute pain.  An MRI revealed an L5 disc protrusion.   At this same time, he was applying to physical therapy programs.  However, after receiving physical therapy with only minimal pain relief, he went to go see a chiropractor.  The chiropractor adjusted him and performed various physiotherapy techniques to relax the muscles around his injury.  He had more pain relief and increased mobility after a few visits to the chiropractor than he had gotten after weeks of only physical therapy. After a couple of months of this combination of chiropractic and physiotherapy, his back injury no longer bothering him, he decided to pursue his doctorate to become a chiropractor.

With his experience in both the medical and chiropractic models, Dr. Kempel believes in an integrated approach to health and wellness care.   While studying at Palmer College of Chiropractic, Dr. Kempel invested time outside of the common curriculum to get trained in multiple techniques and evidenced based treatment protocols including the McKenzie Method, Thompson drop table, Gonstead pelvic bench, and myofascial release techniques.  At Genesis Integrative Medicine, Dr. Kempel works with the medical staff to help diagnose and treat patients in order to create the best possible outcomes.  He believes having multiple licensed healthcare professionals in the same building, working with the same patient, and in constant communication is the best way to help people get out of pain and reach their maximum potential.
